Author Guidelines

Illustrations:

  • Only use illustrations for which you hold the rights of use or for which the rights holders have granted you the rights of use. A caption and the source must be indicated for all illustrations. In addition, please provide an alternative text (ALT text) to ensure barrier-free accessibility to the illustration content. You can insert your ALT text (in Word) by right-clicking on the illustration and selecting “Show alternative text...” from the menu (preferably no more than 100 characters).
  • Please upload the illustrations separately in OJS. They must also be embedded at the respective position in the Word document so that the captions and the ALT text are included via the Word function.
  • Please upload image data uncompressed with the original image quality whenever possible: Images/photos as JPG with the highest quality or TIF (300 dpi, LZW compression possible); screenshots as PNG (no post-processing or compression); graphics/charts/tables as TIF (300 dpi, LZW compression possible) or SVG/PDF (vector data).

Abbreviations:

  • General abbreviations such as e.g. and i.e. may be used.
  • Special abbreviations must be given in full when they first appear (example: Library of Congress Classification (LCC))

Date formats:

Must be consistent within a text (February 27, 1965 or 27.02.1965). For dated URLs, always use the format dd.mm.yyyy.

Titles and headings:

In English headings and book titles, only proper nouns and the first word of the heading are capitalized. All other words are lowercase (example: From library to lecture hall)

Footnotes:

Footnotes must be placed following the punctuation mark. Exception: If the footnote refers only to a specific term or expression, it should be placed immediately after that term or expression.

AI Tools:

  • AI-generated text or text segments are not acceptable in o-bib articles; the text content must be original to its author(s). If generative AI tools were used to create parts of the submission, such as software code, this must be clearly indicated in a footnote. This includes specifying which AI application (including the version and date of use) was used and for what purpose.
  • Digital tools for checking grammar and style and translation programs are exempt from the disclosure requirement.

Citation guidelines:

We follow the guidelines of the infoclio citation style. Detailed information and examples can be found at https://infoclio.ch/de/Zitierstil

  • Contrary to the infoclio citation style, the edition designation is appended to the year of publication as follows: 2012, 2nd edition.
  • Unlike the infoclio citation style, links are not marked with angle brackets.
  • Citations are placed in footnotes. Every footnote and every source in the bibliography ends with a period.
  • For the first mention, provide the full citation; for subsequent mentions: consecutively with “Ibid.”; non-consecutively with a short citation [Author: Short title, Year.]
  • For articles, a bibliography is required at the end of the contribution. Websites do not need to be included in the bibliography if they have been cited only once in a footnote. Only titles cited in the footnotes are included.
  • Documents hosted on platforms such as ZENODO (repositories) are cited like blog posts. Example: Benz, Martina: Möglichkeiten alternativer Finanzierung für Open-Access-Publikationen. Eine Untersuchung bestehender Geschäftsmodelle, Zenodo, 22.01.2023, https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7558579.
  • When citing websites without an author, the title is placed first.
  • As an OA journal, we aim to provide our readers with barrier-free access to the cited sources. This means that, at least for OA sources, we include links; these are usually persistent identifiers such as DOI (Digital Object Identifier) or URN (Uniform Resource Name), for which no access date needs to be specified.
  • The addition “Online: URL/DOI etc.” must only be used for document types that are not digitally born but were digitized at a later date.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • The submission has not been previously published and has not been submitted to another journal (if so, a respective statement must be included in the “Comments for the editors” section).
  • AI-generated content (text, images, audio, video, software code, or datasets) must be clearly marked fs suco in a footnote specifying which AI tool (including version and date of use) was used for what purpose.
  • The file must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (with a .doc, .docx, or .rtf extension). Please do not use ODT format, as it often causes problems with the “Track changes” function in Word.
  • Where applicable, URLs have been included in the reference list.
  • The text follows the guidelines for authors mentioned above.
  • A short abstract in English and German is provided at the beginning of the text for submissions in the “Full paper” and “Special issue” sections (if you do not speak German, an English abstract will suffice).
  • An ORCID ID is used for author identification (https://www.orcid-de.org/autorinnenidentifikation-mit-orcid-warum-fuer-wen/).
